Foods high in Sugars, Total

This list ranks foods by total sugars per 100 grams, which includes every sugar a food contains, whether it occurs naturally, as in fruit and dairy, or is added during processing, as in candy, soda, and baked goods. That distinction matters for how you read the list: refined products like table sugar, honey, and molasses sit at the top because they are essentially all sugar, but naturally sweet whole foods like fruit and milk also appear on this list even though their naturally occurring sugars don't carry the same documented health risks as added sugar. Nearly all public health guidance about limiting sugar intake targets added sugar specifically, since excess intake is linked to type 2 diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, and heart disease, particularly from sugar-sweetened beverages. Because this database reports total sugars rather than separating out how much of that is added, use the ranking as a starting point rather than a final verdict: a high-ranking whole fruit or dairy food is a very different everyday consideration than a high-ranking candy, syrup, or sweetened beverage, even though both can appear near the top of the same list.
